QQ-P-416 CADMIUM PLATING

Cadmium is an attractive, soft white metal that can be deposited on various base materials, including steels, aluminum, copper, powdered metal, and various types of iron. Cadmium is one of the few deposits that functions as a "sacrificial coating," corroding before the substrate material.  With natural lubricity, Cadmium plating also provides anti-galling and low friction properties. To enhance the corrosion protection of cadmium plating, chromate conversion coatings can be applied over the plated metal, yielding clear, gold, olive drab, and black finishes.

KEY ADVANTAGES OF CADMIUM PLATING

  • Provides good protection against salt corrosion at low thicknesses.
  • Soft and malleable.
  • Mold and bacteria growth resistant.
  • Can be used on various substrates, such as aluminum, brass, copper, iron, and steel.
  • Is an excellent conductor of electricity.
  • Has low electrical resistance.
  • Works as a good base for paint.
  • Galvanic compatibility with aluminum.
  • Excellent, smooth solderability.
  • Good bonding surface for different adhesives.
  • Excellent lubricity
  • Reliable torque characteristics
  • Protection from galvanic corrosion

APPLICATIONS

Cadmium plating is used in a variety of automotive, aerospace, military, electrical, and consumer product applications. It is a cost-effective coating that exhibits reliable, consistent coverage. Cadmium plating thickness can be adjusted to meet the needs of your project, large or small. Baking processes prevent the occurrence of hydrogen embrittlement.
