MIL-DTL-16232 PHOSPHATE COATING

Phosphate coating is used on steel parts to provide corrosion protection, lubricity, or as a pretreatment for further coatings such as paint or powder coating. The finish provided by the phosphate coating will be gray to black in appearance.  Whether on steel, cast iron, or powdered metal, our zinc and manganese phosphate coatings deliver excellent corrosion resistance, prolong the life of organic coatings, provide an excellent base for lubricants, and can be used as a pre-treatment for paint. Zinc phosphate coatings typically serve as a base on steel for dry film lubricants,  metal flake coatings, or lubricating oils. They may also be used for dry lubrication to improve break-in or reduce galling. Manganese phosphate coatings, also known as Parco Lubrite or Parkerizing, are applied to the surface of ferrous substrates to prevent galling and to improve break-in properties.
