ASTM B766 CADMIUM PLATING

Cadmium is an attractive, soft white metal that can be deposited on various base materials, including steels, aluminum, copper, powdered metal, and various types of iron. Cadmium is one of the few deposits that functions as a "sacrificial coating," corroding before the substrate material.  With natural lubricity, Cadmium plating also provides anti-galling and low friction properties. To enhance the corrosion protection of cadmium plating, chromate conversion coatings can be applied over the plated metal, yielding clear, gold, olive drab, and black finishes.
