ASTM-B733 Electroless Nickel Plating

Keystone Corporation is an industry leader in Electroless Nickel plating. Specialties include  plating on aluminum and stainless steel substrates [in geo]. Electroless nickel plating is done using an alloy of nickel and phosphorus. As the name implies, the deposit is the result of an autocatalytic chemical reaction completed without the use of an external electrical charge.

It can be applied to a wide variety of substrates including copper, bronze, brass and steel. The key benefit of electroless nickel plating is that it will apply uniformly and take on a similar appearance to stainless steel regardless of substrate or part geometry. This creates a durable and appealing product.

About the Electroless Nickel Plating Process

In the early 1950’s, Keystone Corporation held the original patent for the Kanigen Electroless Nickel process that is used by the majority of platers today.

Keystone's Electroless Nickel plating is used in a wide range of applications including:

  • Military
  • Aerospace
  • Communications
  • Automotive
  • Industrial Machinery

Electroless Nickel Plating Features:

  • Very smooth and even coatings can be achieved, regardless of the geometry of the part being plated

  • Great flexibility in plating volume and thickness
  • Provides good coverage in blind holes and recesses
  • Provides uniform plating thicknesses over inside and outside surfaces
  • Heat treated deposits compare in hardness to hard chrome
  • Provides extremely low coefficient of friction
  • Provides excellent corrosion resistance with thicknesses above .0005"
  • Electroless nickel coatings provide excellent surface finishes for shielding EMF and RF electronics
